Thank you California City,

To my family, my friends, and all who supported and voted for me in this election, I would like to take this opportunity to say

thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart.  Words can never express my gratitude.  In my life, I have been

humbled a couple of times and this is definitely one of those times.

To my opponents I wish to say the following.  To Bill Smith congratulations on your victory.  To Kevin Shaffer thank you and

to Dr. Nick someone told me that this race was not a nip and tuck, but a Nick and Chuck.  In addition, I wish the best of

luck to you.  I know this election is not over yet and we will have to wait for the final outcome.

To all of the Mayoral candidates, I say thank you.  Everyone should feel proud for entering a very hard fought race at a time

when our community is facing a lot of different problems.  Also realize, out of approximately 14,000 residences in our community, only six had the courage to enter a political race in an effort to try and make things better for all of us.

To all of California City I say thank you.  I defended the United States Constitution when I was in the military and both the

United States Constitution and the California State Constitution when I served as a California Highway Patrolman.  It

was really nice to experience what I have defended for so long.

Sincerely

Charles P.McGuire

Why am I Running?

I feel that our current city council does not have this community's best interest in mind when they make decisions. They fail to listen when the public voices opposition or concern. The public is allowed their say, then the council votes as if the public had never spoken. The "open door" policy this council claims to have is shameful. They will indeed open the door and let you say what you want to say. As soon as the door closes behind you, so do their minds to public opinion and desire. There is no "transparency"  as promised by this council. This city is moving backward, not forward, under this council's watch. There is no unity between the citizens and the council. I feel as if the council has drawn a line in the sand and created a "Them against Us" attitude.

It will be impossible to correct everything that is wrong with our city overnight. No one, myself included, can accomplish that. If you believe that someone can, or if you are happy with the way things are then I am not the candidate you should vote for. Although I nor anyone else can change things right away, I WILL address issues and concerns in a timely, intelligent manner. I will not ignore them. If I am elected our city will move forward; not backward as it has been. You, the citizens, will have more input about what goes on in our city. Your voice will not only be heard by me, but will be taken into consideration on all of my decisions. You voted to pay a special tax in addition to your regular taxes to make this city a better place to live. You can now vote in a city council that will spend your money wisely and as you intended it to be spent. After all, this is YOUR money not the city's.

I promise you this; I will hit the ground running. There will be no looking back, only forward. I will do my level best not to make mistakes. If, and when, I do make a mistake, I will apologize, ask your forgiveness, then figure out where I went wrong so that I do not repeat that mistake. My ego will never get in the way of what is best for our community.

I feel the relationship between a city council and the people they represent is like a marriage. If there is no TRUST the relationship becomes stagnant and strained. Without TRUST the relationship has no hope for growth.

                                                  ABOUT ME

I moved to California City in 1971 where I got my start in Law Enforcement as a police explorer.  I enlisted

into the United States Air Force and served my country until I was honorably discharged.  I then worked security

on Edwards AFB and was subsequently hired by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  I worked for the CHP for twenty six and one half years, with the last twenty-four and half years assigned out of the Mojave Area office.  In addition to my CHP duties, I was an EMT for twenty-three years, and for ten years I was a paid on-call firefighter for the City of California City.  My entire career has been dedicated to public service and protection.  After retiring from

the CHP I became a member of the California City Citizen’s Advisory Committee.  I am a father, a grandfather, own a home here and I am active in our community, so I have a vested interest. Based on my years of public service, I feel I would make the best candidate while representing the citizens and voters in our community. I would appreciate your vote to bring California City to its full potential i.e. more business, improved parks, and a safer living environment.
